Roger Schneider | The Goshen News
Two backhoes were used Monday to lift dirt from around the piling holding up the Pike Street bridge in Goshen. The Indiana Department of Transporation is spending more than $776,000 to rehabilitate the bridge, which was constructed in 1926. Workers were using a small backhoe sitting on a tiny piece of dry ground in the Elkhart River to remove the soil and then drop it into the larger backhoe for final removal. The workers then placed stones around the pilings.
