Dru Mack of Goshen rides along Purl Street having come from Goshen Public Library, while a couple rides tandem along Fifth Street Tuesday afternoon. To encourage more people to ride, Mayor Jeremy Stutsman will be hosting his third annual Mayor's Ride Thursday, starting at 5:15 p.m. Those who want to participate can join the mayor in the parking lot east of City Hall, 202 S. Fifth St. The ride will end at The Chief. The ride is free and open to everyone. No advance registration is required. If there is a threat of rain, a cancellation will be posted on the city's Facebook page by 4:30 p.m. The Mayor's Ride coincides with Bicycle to Work Week and the Maple City Bicycle Advisory Committee is encouraging Goshen residents to bike to work this week. "For trips of less than two miles, it's often faster to go by bicycle than by car in the city," Stutsman said. "We hope people will 'test the water' of bicycle commuting ... and enjoy the exercise and not having to pay the high price of gas."
