Adam Garey stands on a cherry picker to reach the top of the 25 foot tall monumental Seward Johnson sculpture “God Bless America” as he unfastens a belt used to hoist the 3,000 pound statue upright Monday morning at Central Park in Elkhart. The sculpture, inspired by Grant Wood’s famous painting, “American Gothic,” is part of a Seward Johnson exhibition featuring 56 life-sized sculptures and one monumental sculpture that are installed throughout Elkhart County in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Quilt Garden.
