THE GOSHEN NEWS PHOTO Back When Aug. 31, 1981
The weather provided a brief respite from rain throughout Sunday afternoon before clouds moved in again in the evening. Many area residents took advantage of the day to get in some summer-type activities, including canoeing on the Elkhart River. The river became an unpopular place early in the summer when the water level was high and the current swift, causing boats to capsize. But now, the water level is just right for a leisurely canoe journey. Pictured above, two canoes move under the pedestrian bridge which connects Shanklin and New parks.
